Question by : Phnom Penh to Siam reap : is one day enough?
Im travelling to Phnom Penh in May 2011 and like to travel to Siam reap as well during my stay of six days. How much time do i need to put aside to visit Siam Reap? is one day enough? I hear the best way to go is by motor boat. Is this service available all day and night?

For Siem Reap i would recommend at least two days if you are visiting the temple complexes.
Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom will take a day or more easy and there are many other sites in that area as well. Also since you are spending time in Phnom Phen see the killing fields while you are there. To get to Siem Reap i would suggest taking a car or bus to Battambang and then take the river trip to Siem Reap. Also there are several things to see in and around Battambang as well.

You have to give Siem Reap at least two days. and the boat is a bad idea.

Take the bus. It is about 5 and 1/2 hours and much more comfortable. Or if there are several of you, you can hire a cab for about $ 50 to $ 60 dollars.
Everyone that I have talked to about the boat said that it is a rip-off, noisy, crowded, and does not allow you to see much at all. All recommended against taking the boat. Several said that it was the worst thing that they did while in Asia. Boring.
If you want to see Siem Reap properly more than one day is required .The travel agencies can guide you properly in this case .
